Cafe Iberico

Highly regarded and often visited Cafe Iberico is my (and many others') choice for good tapas food in Chicago. They don't take reservations for parties less than six so wait times can get ugly on popular nights. But a long wait is usually a good sign and that remains true for Iberico. Also true to form for good tapas is a rowdy and sometimes overwhelming noise level from energetic groups. But the best part is that food good is consistently good without a complicated menu and a nice drink list.

We ordered a whole lot of food (and some before I got to the table) so I won't try and recap each dish. The standouts included a calamrai & fries dish, a sausage and rice dish and two different beef plates - one with cheese and one on a skewer with fries. That doesn't leave many choices for the "non-favorites" like spicy potatoes or baked goat cheese but that doesn't mean they weren't good. Also, the red sangria we ordered was tasty and not as sweet as I remembered.

Cafe Iberico remains one of the best (if not the best) tapas option in Chicago. The food is consistent and delicious and accompanied by nice drinks and good service and value. I'm always looking for other ideas outside of Ba-Ba-Reba and Iberico so please share!

  1. I haven't been able to find a better tapas place myself. You can't beat the prices either!
